Praise and Hands Raised

Singing The Hope

"I will come again"

This is the promise of the Lord, a promise filled with hope.

Singing this hope encourages one another to face another day, and reminds one another that  the best is yet to come.

"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared ."

BEHIND ADVENT WORSHIP MUSIC

KEN BURTON has a long history in church music. He is a conductor and arranger for BBC Television Songs Of Praise, the longest running Christian music programme in the world. He has been a Christian believer  all of his life,  and has served in church music for over four and a half decades. He is also an internationally known composer of sacred music, with his music published by major publishers: Faber Music, OUP, RSCM, Peters Edition/Wise, GIA Walton Music. He also directs award winning choirs, and has worked extensively with choirs in many of the biggest film projects.

He has long been an advocate for keeping the message of the soon return of Jesus at the centre of music. Many of his songs and album productions reflect that. Among the productions is a series called 'Advent Songs.
However, he found that the 'golden age' of songs about the advent were from another century. The tradition of looking forward to heaven as being the theme of the final verses of hymns was not as strong as it used to be; not entirely missing, of course, but just less prominent.

Increasingly, many Christians were feeling that heaven - whilst believed to be part of the Christian belief system - was so high on people's agendas, there was a danger of failing to be effective and present in the real world. A lot of new Christians  music was also focusing on worship gatherings and events .
It was clear in Ken's observation that the message of eternal hope was missing, and if not addressed, there was a danger in its importance being lost, or diminished.
Of course, there was an option to talk about it on Facebook, but the better option was....do something about it. By setting up a site, and writing new material himself, that was the most powerful way to encourage others to do the same.

What this is all about

About The Music

We all appreciate different types of music.  Many Christian believers have a very definite idea regarding music that is suited to worship.  Advent Worship Music will be a space dedicated to offering songs which:

1. Speak of the advent message - the return of Jesus, Heaven itself , looking forward to Heaven, preparing for Heaven, the blessed hope, the information given in Scripture in relation to this - such as the signs of the times,  and more.

2. Are exclusively Bible based. This does not necessarily mean they have to quote directly  from the Bible, but must be based on Bible themes.  For avoidance of doubt, the songs will be based on the Christian belief of the advent. Sometimes people write songs which have a vague reference or inference, but we expect the lyrics to be clear.

3. Congregational. This is not for solo or group music, but as the name 'worship' suggests, these will be songs suited for corporate, house, and private worship.

4. Original, and properly administered. A song is intellectual property, and is therefore protected by law. Songs and songwriters whose music appears here will be expected to have publishing, or appropriate reporting sorted. This site does not offer publishing services. This site will not make any gains from music on it. Anything regarding financial matters is dealt with by whoever is responsible for publishing.
The site will offer links to music. Therefore if a composer has their own site, this site can link to their site. If a composer has a song on a site, this site can create a direct link to that.  We want composers to be able to be in full control of their music.  We are happy to provide the space to put people in touch with their music.

LINK UP

The purpose of this site is to present new music based on the Advent message.

However, that music is no good on a site; it is designed to be sung, in order for the body of Christ to be encouraged to keep this blessed hope alive. We will create a space where those involved in the music making of the churches - worship leaders, choir directors, pastors, technical teams, and any one else, can make connections with the songwriters and vice versa.
For example, you may be looking for a theme song, or may have a particular congregation and want specific types of music. It can be overwhelming when there is a lot of information on a site, and it is often easier and quicker if someone can give immediate assistance.

Maybe you went to a church and heard them singing a song and felt that you have something that would work well with their setup. You may be writing in a particular way and wish to connect with people who do music in your style.

Denomination

A very relevant question you may have is: are there denominational ties?

This site has no ties to denomination*. The message of Jesus' return belongs to ...Jesus. It is contained in the Bible. It is a Christian belief.

Ken Burton, who has set up this site, has been, and continues to be  an active member of the Seventh-Day Adventist denomination all of his life. That is the specific family of believers he has enjoyed  worshipping and serving with.

The music we all enjoy singing has been contributed to by people of different denominations over the years. The only prerequisite for music on this site is that it is linked to Scripture. We should be able to read the lyrics and see connections to the Bible.

* - this means no obligation to, or management bye a denomination.
